Hello everybody. Elder Shumway here emailing you from Wilmington,
Delaware. This week was pretty uneventful. Elder Gibbons and I are
still trying to get to know the area. We sat down with our ward
missionary and went through the ward list and asked him if he knew
them,if they need a visit, moved, etc... And we were able to kind of
separate the wheat from the tares. Now we have a better understanding
who we need to focus our efforts on.
So last week I talked about a woman named Debbie. She was the one who
walked up to us and pretty much just asked to be baptized. She is a
what missionaries call a golden investigator. Unfortunately we found
out that she doesn't live in our area! It was super sad cause i really
wanted to teach her. But that's ok I'm sure she will progress in the
Gospel.
It sure is starting to warm up here. Spring is definitely on its way.
That's means there's probably gonna be more rain. At least it's not
snow. I would much rather have rain than snow.
That's about it for this week. Sorry this is kind of a short letter.
Not much happened this week
Love Elder Shumway
Hey Carson. Volleyball is already starting? That's awesome. Hopefully
you guys can do well this year. Are you on varsity? Nice job on
beating everybody in the scrimmage. What? No more coach Jackson for tennis?
That's sad. Wow they're actually doing conditioning stuff that's
crazy! Thanks for the email.
Love Elder Shumway
Hey Lila. Not much happened this week for me either. I was kind of
injured for about two days and didn't do anything. The work here is
slowly getting better. Lucky you got to go out to lunch with mom!
What? Who told you about those bed bugs? Unfortunately we have not gotten rid
of them yet. We have the kind that we can't see so that's a huge
bummer. Elder Gibbons is still super awesome. Teaching is going very
slow not much to report on there.
Love you too. Elder Shumway
Mom.
How old are the girls you are teaching in primary? Enos is a great
story from the Book of Mormon. We should definitely pray for the
people who are not nice to us. There have definitely been some people
who have not been nice to me out here.
My week was ok. I was kind of out of commission for two days. Tuesady
morning I woke up and had this horrible pain in my neck and it hurt so
much for me to just slightly move. I couldn't event get out of bed it
hurt so much. And I was pretty much the same Wednesday. That was no
fun. It is hard being doubled in. It does make the work go slower too.
The awkward feeling is slowly going away. I wish members wouldn't be
so afraid of us or awkward around us. Good no one has been sick to
much at home. Those two days were the key two days that I didn't do
any missionary work. I felt super in affective. Hopefully the flu will
go away soon.
Our area is slowly getting better. Haha Debbie, well we had a lesson
with her Tuesday and since I was out of commission the Spanish
elders went on exchanges with us so we could make that appointment. As
they went over there they realized that she's not even in our area.
She's in he sisters area. She's a super golden investigator and we
can't even have her! We had to give her up to the sisters. I don't
know how she knows about it. She does still want to be baptized. She
has a date set for the 26 of March, I believe.
It's not three weeks it's only one week. The MTC is extending the stay
of English speaking missionaries to three weeks. It used to be two. So
they are adding only one week to the regular missionaries. Sorry if I
confused you on that.
I'm happy I survived it winter too. It wasn't actually that bad. Now spring
is pretty much at the door now. It should be warming up soon. I
love how it rains so much. But I don't like the snow. Hopefully it
won't snow. I'm super excited for the heat. Also there are a lot more
people out when it's hot so we can talk to more people.
I hope Andrew doing ok. He's always smiling in his pictures. I'll email
him today and see how he's doing. I'll give him some encouragement and
tell him I love him.
Haha I figured you had forgotten about finding names on family search
. Speaking of family search, I sent
you a few names that need ordinances done for. Did you get those? The
DC temple is also closed for a little bit.
Dad does need a new car. An Altima would be a really nice car I think.
Dad says you guys haven't made a decision yet.
Nice you're the team photographer! How much do you get paid? I'm sure
Carson will do awesome at volleyball. He's already super good. Wow
trek! I loved trek! You will love trek too. Have you ever gone on one?
1: Haha. I don't know, cats are just everywhere around here and some are
really friendly.
2: Elder Gibbons is awesome! We do get along.
3: We've had a lot of dinner in the ward actually. Maybe too many. Some people in this ward
remember another Elder Shumway who served here a few years ago.
I do need something. So remember how we never got anything that said
we needed to pay for my iPad? Well I got an email that says I need to
pay it. It's also on my missionary portal website. I don't know how
I'm gonna pay it. Could you help me out? If you can here's how you do
it. Go to missionary.lds.org. Username: shumwayb. Password: bradends.
Then it will pull it up when you get on there.
Love you too. Elder Shumway
All is going pretty well. Lucky you got to play softball! Congrats on
the win and the trophy you get. Did you hit any homers? Altimas are
pretty nice cars. What years are they and how many miles? Do you have
one you're kind of leaning towards to get? Wow trek! Carson will love
trek. Mom told me that you're going up there one night to help with
some activities, that should be a lot of fun. I figured Taryn has started his mission papers.
He's a lot less visible? Like he's not trying to get a lot of
attention? He has been known for doing that in the past. I'll have to
see how he's doing. Another new class. Which one? Poor chair. Are you
gonna get a whole set or just a few? Sorry you hurt yourself. Was
anybody around to watch and laugh at you? Just like the time on Provo
river where you did a similar thing? You can tell them I'm doing just
fine. Still working hard. The apartment isn't too comfortable. We
still have bed bugs, but they are the kind that you can't see I guess.
We are trying to stay busy.
Love you. Elder Shumway
