Good afternoon, it's really cold and windy here. So the cardinals lost yesterday? Who did they play? I guess a few coaches have been fired. I hear that chip Kelly is no more for the Eagles. That's too bad for those Arizona teams. Still have the same calling, that's good. We got a new ward mission leader yesterday and I'm really excited because I didn't like the last one and this one I know will be a lot better. I wish I could do more family history here. New Year's Eve we got to stay out until 10:00 as long as we were with a member. I didn't hear any fireworks, probably because I was dead tired and was asleep. Good to hear that Carsons eye is doing well. Haha yeah, sister smith thinks that I don't like vegetables for some reason so she always makes a big deal out of it when I eat some.
Love Elder Shumway

Hello mother. It's pretty quite here too. Usually in the mornings it's very quite. Sorry that the break is over. I wouldn't be excited to go back to school either. I wish I could get a break. But I can't.

Actually I'll say no thank you to the citrus cause I haven't even touched the ones you sent me because I've been so busy. Can't wait for the calendar to get here. I would love to see new pictures of the family.

On New Years we went to the Wojcickis for also a raging party. We had dinner and stayed with them for a while and talked. Oh yeah and those pictures are pretty funny. It was a lot of fun.

I was so happy when I read that she can talk a little bit. It's awesome that she is making some progress. I pray for her very often. Hopefully she can continue on making progress. It's crazy that Sadie is going to be married.

I will thank these people. I had a pretty ok week. These past couple of weeks have been slow. Mostly because for a day we weren't in our area and that can really mess things up. Dontá (you always spell his name wrong)has been in Philly all week and haven't been able to see him, should come home today though. I do get a new companion tomorrow. Right now I'm with Elder Kester. He is really cool, mainly because he likes country music a lot and so do I. I hope I like my new companion too. I told the zone leaders that I wanted an athletic companion because none of my companions have been athletic. I have not been asked to train so I probably won't.

I do not remember the Burrell family. I was wondering why you sent me that picture. That's cool, she is coming to a great mission. She will also go home with me, cause by next transfer I'll be out for 6 months.

Love you too, Elder Shumway

Hello Lila. My week was ok, it's super cold and windy. I spent a lot
of time d I got missionary work. I wouldn't want to go back to school
either. It's good that your excited for the dance class though. Good
luck with ballet. Maybe you should go to bed earlier? I wish I could
go to bed earlier and sleep in. What books did you get? I am going to
miss Elder Murphy, he goes home tomorrow. I am excited to get a new
companion. That's gross that Sam just threw up. New Years I was at the Wojcickis and we
stayed up till ten and then went home and went to bed at 10:30. 😊
❤️ Elder Shumway

Don't be alarmed everybody. I didn't literally kill my companion. It's
missionary lingo. We say that our mission is our life. Since Elder
Murphy is going home that means he is about to die and since I was his
companion when he dies I am the one who killed him. So yep Elder
Murphy is almost home. He will be home tomorrow. That means I get my
new companion tomorrow. I have not been asked to train so I will
probably still just be a regular missionary, which is just fine with
me. I will do whatever the Lord wants me to do.

On Tuesday Elder Murphy went to the temple. So I got t to spend the
day with Elder Kester who is a companion of another Elder who went.
Their area is Easton,PA. They also cover a small part of New Jersey
called Phillipsburg and we went there and I can now say that I have
been to Jersey! In Jersey gas is so cheap! I saw a gas station that
was $1.75! Anybody who doesn't like the gas prices in Arizona come on
over to New Jersey and get really cheap gas. When we were over there
we met with a man named Randy Adams. He is a tall black guy. He is
less active and I can tell that he smokes a lot. He is very nice and
he likes to play video games. He said he would start coming back to
church.

How was everybody's new year? Mine was great. We got to stay out until
10:00 as long as we were with a member. Unfortunately I didn't hear
any fire works cause I was really tired and fell asleep before they
started. We did get to have an awesome dinner that night though and be
with some awesome members.

The night before we had dinner with a family of former investigators.
We were really looking forward to it cause they seemed like a really
cool family. The kids were awesome and so was the mom, they were all
great. The meal was delicious and there was great conversation during
dinner, but after dinner the dad started to say things about the
church. He told us that he doesn't come to church because he says life
is to short. Oh and he is also an ex communicated member. He was very
arrogant about everything and rude as well. I asked him if he still
thinks that the church is true, he said he did but he says he will do
everything in his power to not go to church. That night made me sad.
But afterwards we had a pretty good lesson with Kory. We talked about
the Gospel of Jesus Christ and we tried to set her up with a baptismal
date. But they first have to get married. We were pushing for February
13th for Kory to be baptized but they thought that was too soon. We
will continue on working with them, but we know that she does want to
be baptized. So that's good.

Another flippin awesome thing that happened was that the angel Moroni
was put on top of the Philly temple! I'm so excited for the temple! It
is just going to be amazing. I'm so glad that I was called to this
mission at this time. Honestly I am in the best mission in the entire
world.

Also for my New Years resolution I want to lose some weight and not stuff
my face with food all the time. I've heard that when missionaries make
goals like these that the opposite just happens and it is so true. I
have been fed so much food over the last few days it is crazy. Don't
be surprised if I come home a little more chubby than usual.

Have a great week love you
Elder Shumway
